What is the maximum number of recipients I can use?

Our system is currently configured to allow a maximum of 50 recipients per single message.

This is done because many 'remote' email servers will reject messages containing large numbers of recipients - if possible we would recommend you try to keep to less than 10 recipients per message.

If you are using mail-merge or mailing list software with AuthSMTP check the configuration to see if it will split a large mailing into multiple seperate email messages - they usually allow you to either specify a number of recipients per message or one message per recipient.

Notes:

  • This figure is not guaranteed as it could become necessary to reduce this as an anti-SPAM precaution.
  • In terms of your message quotas - 1 message with 20 recipients (either as to:, cc: or bcc:) will count as 20 messages sent - see here for more details.
